![]() Empowering and Protecting Slum Girls“We are fortunate to have such a training session in our slum locality as there is hardly any opportunity here to talk about adolescent health”, shares Laxmi, 19, from JJ Bandhu Slum pocket in Delhi. The batch has just started in this locality with adolescent girls and Laxmi was the first to hear about it and enrol herself. Once she learnt about the curriculum, she was very excited and in no time had mobilised a dozen more girls to sign up. Her enthusiasm and people skills were not in vain. Nasim Ahamad, Coordinator, field operations at Sukarya who was also the facilitator of the training programme, immediately nominated her as the batch leader, much to Laxmi’s delight. There are many girls like Laxmi who need these trainings. Sukarya’s Gender Equality Programme is designed to educate and empower adolescent girls (10-19 years) on sexual and reproductive health. It takes a deep dive into issues that affect their basic human rights, knowledge, and awareness levels with respect to gender, social justice, family life and employability. |

![]() Help Digitally Deprived Students and Women to Continue their Education in And after COVID-19.Dharma Bharati Mission is a Mumbai-based non-profit NGO that aims to help the underprivileged women and children in slum areas by providing them with the education that is a stepping stone to a better life. They are constantly working with our team to provide them, online classes, through smartphones and free internet packs and they don’t want to stop here because of low funds. They will need 200-250 phones quarterly. The maximum cost will be a 6,000/-per phone. After the course, the beneficiary will be required to return the phone, and these can be reused for at least one more batch. They can even look for giving one phone amongst 2-3 beneficiaries asking them to share. As regards Data Packs- For a three-month batch, and a daily class of 2 hours and practice sessions, they will need a plan for 1GB data per day for which charges will be around INR 150 per month or max INR 500 per quarter. Thus with a contribution of Rs. 6500 /- you can support the education of an underprivileged child. In this first fundraiser, they are targeting to raise money for 75 such students who are in Class 9th & 10th and need it foremost. |

What do generosity and giving mean?Watch this inspiring conversation with Asha Curran, Co-Founder & CEO, GivingTuesday Global & Philanthropists Amit & Archana Chandra. #GivingTuesday is about everyone celebrating the generosity movement across the globe! Asha explains in this short video that generosity to her is a deeply held universal value that has many different expressions. We all have something to give generously to make the lives of others better. Philanthropists Amit & Archana Chandra, key supporters of GivingTuesdayIndia, explain how giving is not just about changing the lives of others but it is also about changing our own lives, it is about discovering happiness for ourselves. Amit says movements like GivingTuesday are symbolic movements, you start by giving on a particular day and it gets you started on a journey. |
