A not-for-profit public trust aiming to integrate the arts into education.
Akshara Foundation of Arts and Learning (AFAL), founded in 2007, as a Mumbai-based not-for-profit public trust that works across several areas, all focused on integrating the arts into education. Among its many projects, is a not-for-profit ICSE-affiliated school that promotes affordable education and brings to the forefront the importance of the arts in everyday curriculum.
Akshara High School is an inclusive not-for-profit school in the northern suburbs of Mumbai. Founded in 2006, it is a neighborhood school for the children of the area that come from under-serviced and underprivilege backgrounds.
Akshara is a co-educational, not-for-profit English medium ICSE School situated in Charkop, Kandivali, Mumbai. It is an inclusive school serving children from diverse backgrounds with varied abilities. Since its inception, the school has managed to maintain subsidised fee structures, which includes art programmes, sports training and state-of-the-art science laboratories.
The school strongly believes that education is not just about the content being taught to children, but also the environment in which the child learns. It aims to provide an environment that is rich in meaningful opportunities, enabling children to develop into mindful beings.
Akshara receives no grants or funding from government agencies. Currently, all funds are being raised through fees and donations from various organisations, friends and well-wishers. However, these are insufficient to meet the actual expenses towards providing the required and running costs of the school. We are determined to provide subsidised education that can cater to all sections of society and to achieve this we seek funding from institutions in the form of grants and collaborations.
Akshara aims to build spaces that provide equal opportunities and an environment that supports learning where the arts form an essential part of life. A world where children absorb knowledge, develop skills and express themselves freely without fear or prejudice, thus empowering them. We currently have 256 students who have access to every modern technology to assist their learning, and at highly subsidised fees.
