Amar Seva Sangam is an organization working in the disability sector. It is founded and run by persons with disabilities. Amar Seva Sangam established in the year 1981 inAyikudy about 5 Kms away from Tenkasi, in southern most part of Tamil Nadu. Amar Seva Sangam is catering to more than 13000 persons with disabilities in more than 800 villages in Tirunelveli District of Tamilnadu from basic schooling to higher education including computer education, vocational rehabilitation, special education for mentally challenged, hostel for disabled children and youth, rehabilitation centre for Spinal Injured Patients and a medical testing / therapy unit.
Expansion of Medical Testing Unit, the Advanced Physiotherapy Centre: The Medical Testing Unit was set up in 1998 with a separate section for new born babies. Its approach is modern and uses items like soft mattresses, mirrors, specific play materials apart from new rehabilitation techniques. Many physiotherapy students from various colleges and from foreign universities are placed for rehabilitation training. It conducts awareness training for the parents and caretakers of children, and for medical and non-medical people about the disability. Daily, about 100 service users derive benefit from this unit with total services per month above 2500. It is providing around 31,000 Services in a year for 700 Patients.
