Here is a little story of a lively, smart and cheerful 10 year old little girl named Siri, whose life almost seemed to end too soon because of Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure. Her family is from Hassan and father works as a First Division Assistant in Court, Karkala. Siri was advised for Heart Transplant as medical solution. What seemed like a dream to save her life wouldn't have become a reality without the support of the NGO, Youth For Seva (YFS) which identified this case and bestowed faith in me to counsel and support the family.
Though Siri was registered for Heart Donor list since Jan 2017, they were not able to get Heart Donor matching her blood group and weight. The painful ordeal she and her family went through the whole of 2017 because of her deteriorating critical condition, financial struggle and delay in finding a matching donor left them in utter despair. She was then put on Super Emergency list of donor requirement in Jan 2018. I have been following up this case as a volunteer since Nov 2016. I was constantly in touch with the family counselling them and especially Siri to not lose hope. One day in the hospital while she was there for nearly a month, Siri asked me, when will I be able to run and dance again? Finally, on 13th Mar 2018, a Heart Donor matching Siri's blood group and weight was identified, and the heart transplant was successfully carried out at Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore.
Cannot believe that 8 months have passed since Siri underwent Heart Transplant. Now she is back in school with great enthusiasm, courage and a resolve to live her life to her full potential. There were innumerable hurdles through this journey and financial situation was also a major one since the family had already exhausted their resources. That's when we connected to partner NGO - PG Care Foundation who came forward and supported Siri treatment .
This is a great example of involvement of many people willing to do whatever possible to save and transform a life. My joy and satisfaction is boundless when I hear that sweet little voice on the phone saying - Good Morning Miss, I am Siri, I am fine, when are you coming to meet me?
