Meet Gaja, who's from a indigenous nomadic community called Boom Boom Maatukarar. Gaja's father is a amateur hunter of small preys for food and his mother seeks alms at the Velankanni basilica near Nagapattinam Town. Gaja was able to get an education mainly because of Vanavil and despite many obstacles Gaja has reached class 10 this year. [To read more about the Vanavil School and its pathbreaking work please visit www.vanavil.org] However the Covid19 pandemic has meant that the schools are not open and its still uncertain when they will actually open in this academic year. We are however trying to keep the learning process of our children like Gaja and 150 others in various classes uninterrupted so that they dont fall off from the educational path and are able to learn skills that would be needed to clear the class they are in. We are forming micro learning groups in the hamlets where the kids reside and propose to get them a tablet - one tablet for five kids - so that they can continue their learning. We've engaged content from Aidindia a renowned educational non profit who've agreed to give us their learning content in Math and English at basic cost. We now seek donations to buy 30 tabs at the cost of 12,000 each to enable this process.
